We, the children of the stone jungle, practically do not know how to live without a refrigerator. For 100 years, this device has been making our lives easier and much more comfortable. Previously, it was necessary to resort to tricks so that cheeses, sausages and vegetables could be stored longer. Today we will tell you how to properly store food without a refrigerator, actually in field conditions.
Our great-grandmothers and great-grandfathers left us a lot of inventions for this. In some cases, a little effort is required. In others, you only need to freeze some ice. These few methods will help in times of power outage or device breakdown. In addition, these tips are simply indispensable when camping and just going on a picnic.

Products in the well
It’s quite cold in the well, so it’s a great alternative to the fridge.
Products packed in a bag or in hermetic containers are placed in a cebro. The bucket is lowered into the well approximately halfway. Icy well water will cope perfectly with cooling.
Homemade cellar
It’s a little more complicated here. If you do not have your own cellar or cold basement, as in old houses, you can make a small storage chamber in the ground. For this you will need a large plastic barrel. The barrel is dug into the ground to the very top, filling the space below and on the sides with sand. Sand is needed so that the tub sits better and is not pushed out during frosts.
The barrel is lined from the inside with heat-insulating material. It can even be sawdust sealed in a bag. A hermetic cover is necessary on top so that no rodents or insects run to the stocks.
The method is suitable for the middle lane, because the ground freezes very deeply in winter and keeps the temperature until the beginning of May. For the cold season, this is what is needed.
Atmospheric refrigerator
A real find for those who want to cool snacks while relaxing in a country house. Atmospheric refrigerator – a construction of a basin, a bucket with a lid, water and cloth. Works on the principle of cooling using the dew point temperature. It sounds complicated, but everything works quite simply.
Fill the basin with water, place the container with food inside and cover with a lid. Wrap the cloth from above so that its ends are in the water on all sides. By evaporating, the water will cool the bucket and will not let the heat of the surrounding air pass. This way you can cool the contents of the bucket by 10-15 degrees.

Own glacier
A very old but effective method. For the construction of the glacier, two-meter deep pits were previously dug. Of course, we will not do this.
Find a large box and insulate it well. The box must be hermetically packed and closed with a lid. Place a smaller metal container inside. Fill the space between the walls with chunks of ice (in winter, you can stab it yourself) or with ordinary bottles of frozen water.
Important: do not fill the bottles to the end, otherwise they will burst during the freezing process.
Such a glacier will serve you for about three days, being in a shaded place away from the sun. Then you just need to update the ice.
