In families with small children, it can be difficult to monitor the condition of toys. Sometimes they end up in the mud, sometimes they pee on them with a pen or paints, and some lie in the far corner or box for so long that they become dusty. It is important for parents to know whether toys can be washed and how to do it quickly with the help of improvised means. It is especially relevant how to wash soft toys and with fillers, which are one of the most dangerous dust collectors in the apartment and can be damaged by water. Let’s consider all issues thoroughly.

The option of how to wash toys depends on two factors.

First, from the material from which they are made. Soft toys, according to allergists, should be washed once or twice a week. Ordinary shampoo, soap solution, baby powder and conditioner are suitable for them. Products of rubber and plastic dolls are washed less often – once or twice a month. The means are the same – shampoo and soap. Wooden products should not be washed too often, mold may appear on the surface. A soapy solution is also suitable here.

Secondly, if the toy is street, then it must be washed every time you come home or remain in the hallway. But the most important rule of washing is to wash as dirty as possible. It is better to get rid of old toys or toys infected with parasites, as it is not always possible to wash them.

Dry and wet cleaning

Both types of cleaning are performed once every few weeks. For example, together with cleaning the house.

Dry cleaning means wiping the thing with a cloth, cleaning the dust with a vacuum cleaner.

Can be cleaned with soda. For this, a bag is taken, where non-fragile toys filled with soda are placed. All this is shaken, and the soda falls to the bottom with dust. After the toys are cleaned with a brush.

Wet cleaning is carried out using a slightly moistened cloth or soapy foam. The foam is applied to the toy and removed with the same damp cloth. Then you need to let it dry. You can simply soap the toy and wipe it, if it is not made of fabric.

Cleaning means getting rid not only of dust, but also of germs. To do this, you can ventilate the apartment every day and spray the toys with an antiseptic solution from time to time.

Almost all materials can be hand washed:

  1. Water with detergent collects in the sink or basin.
  2. Toys are placed there and washed by hand or with a sponge to remove dirt.
  3. If necessary, they are wrung out, rinsed and wrung out again.
  4. Then they are dried in the open air or on batteries.

In the washing machine , you can wash soft toys without separate parts, with sewn or securely glued decorations.

  • Use a special cover for washing, so there is no risk that some protruding parts (jewelry, buttons, eyes of dolls) will catch on other things and spoil them.
  • The washing mode should be delicate, the temperature should not exceed 30 degrees.
  • A conditioner must be added to the powder, shampoo or soap.
  • After wringing, the toy should be slightly damp. Otherwise, it is re-squeezed.

If it has deformed, changed color or faded, then the next time it is erased manually. Toys that change color strongly deserve special attention. Perhaps they are painted with low-quality dyes and pose a danger to the child.

After washing, the toys should be completely dry, there should be no soap streaks or wet spots on them.

Nuances of washing

Every toy needs proper care.

Can musical toys be washed? You should know that they assume the presence of electronics, so they cannot be washed in water. But you can:

  • clean the outside with a damp cloth;
  • clean with soda, just don’t shake the bag too much;
  • leave for several days in the freezer without batteries to kill germs;
  • if the pollution is strong, then you can wash the musical toys, but only after removing the electronic element from them. Spread along the seam, take it out and re-sew securely so that the stuffing does not fall out during washing. Then return the part to its place.

Large soft toys are so much larger than ordinary ones that they do not fit in the washing machine. Then them:

  • cleaned with a vacuum cleaner every week;
  • clean the outside with foam;
  • clean with soda, rubbing soda into the toy and cleaning it with a vacuum cleaner;
  • take out to the cold or fresh air, under the sun’s rays.

Antistress toys cannot be washed with water either. Their filler can get wet and spoil. Their care includes:

  • dry cleaning without soda;
  • taking to the air.

If the child painted an anti-stress toy, it is easier to buy a new one or allow the child to continue his creativity.

Rubber toys are washed as usual, but it happens that children paint them. In this case, it will help:

  • alcohol, which is used to thoroughly wipe the painted area;
  • vinegar;
  • potassium permanganate solution;
  • a mixture of the above components.

At the same time, you can hold them longer so that the traces will definitely disappear. After this procedure, the toy is washed and dried in the air so that the smell of the products disappears.

Washing toys is not such a difficult job. And knowing how to do it and what to use for it, washing will be a pleasure. The main thing is to abandon powerful means in favor of ordinary ones. So the result will be much more effective.
