Cooking meat dishes or baking in the oven is accompanied by the formation of fat deposits on its inner surfaces. In addition, food particles can fall out of the sheets and burn to the bottom and walls. It is easy to remove such contamination immediately, but if you let them infuse, then finding a way to clean the oven of fat and soot becomes more difficult.

How to wash properly

Sooner or later you will have to wash any electric or gas oven in which some food was cooked. Otherwise, the remaining fat will accumulate in such a quantity that it will start to smoke and burn. As a result, in addition to cleaning the oven, you will have to think about how to get rid of the smell of soot in the apartment.

The walls of most plates are covered with enamel, dirt from which can be easily removed with an ordinary wet sponge. Drops of dried fat can be washed off by adding a little dishwashing detergent to warm water or, if the drops are dried, use special means. The market of household chemicals is rich in all kinds of cleaning products, you just need to choose the right one for a certain type of coating. When the choice is made, you can proceed:

  • Put on rubber gloves so that the substances do not harm the skin of the hands.
  • We take a container in which we will soak the leaves, fill it with hot water and add a little detergent.
  • We take all the contents out of the oven and place them in a container.
  • Apply a little detergent to the sponge and treat the surface. It is not necessary to wash the heating elements.
  • Close the oven and heat for 10 minutes at a temperature not exceeding 100 ˚C.
  • Turn off, let cool and wash thoroughly with clean water.

How to clean the oven from fat and soot

You can prepare the cleaning composition yourself. For example, one option includes dishwashing liquid, vinegar (citric acid solution or juice), Comet-type cleaners, or the like. These ingredients must be thoroughly mixed, using equal amounts. The resulting mixture is used as follows:

  • With the help of a sponge, we apply it to the walls of the cabinet, shelves, sheets and leave it for an hour.
  • Then wash thoroughly and wipe dry.

The use of specialized household chemicals allows you to quickly get rid of even complex pollution. But this method has one significant drawback – harmfulness. To completely remove the detergent composition, it is necessary to wash it more than 70 times. Therefore, in order to save precious time, it is worth paying attention to more gentle methods.

Home cleaning methods

The following products will help you get rid of sunburn with home remedies.

Lemon juice

The acid contained in lemon juice is a gentle and effective product for cleaning any coating, including enamel. If there is no lemon at hand, you can use a solution of powdered acid instead.

  1. We squeeze the lemon juice into an empty container, so that it squeezes better, you can scald the lemon with boiling water, and then cut it in half.
  2. Dilute lemon juice with the same amount of warm water.
  3. We treat the walls and other surfaces inside the oven with the prepared mixture.
  4. We wait 40 minutes, after which we thoroughly wipe with a clean, damp sponge.

The prepared composition can be applied using a container with a sprayer. Spraying is a little faster and more convenient than rubbing by hand, but more liquid will be needed.

An alternative option for cleaning from burnt fat:

  1. Fill a tray or other heat-resistant container with boiling water.
  2. Dilute a little gel for dishes or another similar agent in it.
  3. Add finely chopped lemon.
  4. Place inside the cabinet and heat to 150 ˚C and boil for half an hour;
  5. Let cool for 10-15 minutes.
  6. Now the softened fatty formations are easily washed off with a clean damp cloth.

Table salt

Salt dissolves fat, but for this to happen, it needs to be heated. The procedure for removing fat accumulations and heat using salt is as follows:

  1. We sprinkle salt on shelves, sheets and everything that can be sprinkled.
  2. We heat the contents until the salt turns brown.
  3. After that, let it cool down and wash in the usual way.

Household soap

This universal tool includes only natural ingredients, so its use is absolutely harmless. A concentrated alkaline environment allows you to clean even old formations. Therefore, it will not be difficult to remove fat deposits in the oven with its help. All that is needed for cleaning is a bar of household soap and hot water.

  1. We take half a bar of household soap, rub it on a grater or chop it with a knife.
  2. Fill a heat-resistant container with boiling water and dissolve the prepared soap shavings in it.
  3. We place the mixture in a heated oven.
  4. We raise the temperature to 150 ˚C and hold at this temperature for 40 minutes.
  5. We wait 10 minutes until the surface cools down from the inside.
  6. After treatment with hot soapy steam, the fat will soften and can now be removed with a stiff sponge.
  7. After cleaning the soot, thoroughly wash it with a soft cloth.

If the smell of soap remains after washing, leave the oven to air out for a couple of hours or overnight.

We clean the oven from old fat

A burn that was not removed in a timely manner is cleaned with more aggressive folk remedies than a relatively fresh one.

Vinegar or citric acid

Fat in an acidic environment is split into components, which are then easily washed away. It is difficult to get rid of hardened soot with acid alone. The method described below uses a comprehensive approach:

  1. We heat the stove to 150 ˚C.
  2. We take half a liter of water, heat it to boiling and add 50 g of vinegar to it and stir. If there is no vinegar, add 2 teaspoons of dry citric acid.
  3. Pour the prepared mixture into a deep pan or other heat-resistant dish.
  4. We put the container with the mixture in the lowest position.
  5. Close the door, increase the temperature to 200 ˚C and keep it in this condition for 40 minutes.
  6. After half an hour after switching off, you can clean with a soapy solution.

Places on which particles of scorch remain are additionally treated with vinegar, a solution of citric acid or a slice of lemon. After a quarter of an hour, they can be removed without much effort.

An alternative option that is especially effective if the soot is not too old.

  1. We heat the oven so that its walls become slightly warm.
  2. We cover the inner surface with vinegar, for this it is convenient to use a sprayer.
  3. After a couple of hours, you can wash in the usual way.

Baking soda with vinegar or citric acid

  1. Make a liquid paste by adding baking soda or baking powder to the water.
  2. We cover the warm walls of the furnace with the prepared mixture, paying special attention to significant accumulations of soot.
  3. We wait 1-2 hours, after which we apply vinegar from a sprayer to the dried soda layer. As a result, a neutralization reaction should begin, which will ensure easy removal of impurities later.
  4. After 15 minutes, you can wash the oven with a soapy washcloth.

Instead of vinegar, you can use an aqueous solution of dry citric acid in the ratio: 1 part of powder to 14 parts of water.

Baking soda or baking powder

These products are very similar in composition, so you can use both separately, but you should not mix them.

  1. We make a mixture of water and baking powder for the dough, bringing it to the consistency of liquid sour cream.
  2. Apply to a slightly warmed surface and leave for half an hour, then wash off.

Soda and hydrogen peroxide

These two effective means can be used separately, but in the case of combining them, you can achieve a greater effect in the fight against old heartburn.

  1. A spoonful of soda is diluted in five spoons of peroxide.
  2. Treat contaminated areas with the prepared mixture.
  3. We wait for half an hour, after which we wash.

Ammonia

This drug is available in any pharmacy and with its help you can easily clean the oven of old fat and soot:

  1. We apply ammonia on the cold inner walls of the oven. We do this with a rag or cloth napkin.
  2. We leave it closed for the night. In the morning, the soot will easily come off if you wash it with dishwashing gel.

An alternative method of cleaning with ammonia:

  1. Fill one container with water and put it in the bottom of the oven.
  2. Turn on, heat to 100 ˚C, wait until it boils.
  3. We turn it off and add ammonia to another container and put it on top.
  4. Leave for the night.

In the morning, mix the contents of the two containers, add soap, stir and wash with the resulting solution, then rinse.

How to remove the smell of detergent

After the burnt-on dirt is removed, the following recommendations will help to get rid of the smell of detergents:

  1. Leave the oven open for half an hour – let it air out.
  2. Dissolve 10 tablets of activated carbon in a liter of water, pour into a pan and boil in the oven for 10 minutes.
  3. We dilute water with vinegar in equal quantities and apply (spray) on the walls. Leave for a couple of minutes, then wipe dry.

The smell of the detergent can be removed by washing thoroughly with clean water, if necessary several times.

Additional methods of cleaning an electric oven

A few more effective ways to fight soot and fat in ovens.

Abrasive washcloth

This is a foam sponge, one side of which has a fluffy coating with an abrasive filler. The grain of the abrasive in such washcloths is very fine and does not leave noticeable marks on the enamel coating. However, you should not use it to wipe the glass door of the stove, otherwise small scratches will form on it. As for fatty deposits, an abrasive washcloth can handle it even without chemicals and extra effort on the part of the user.

Steam cleaning

Not all methods are suitable for cleaning a delicate enamel coating. Especially those that involve the use of household chemicals. Even innocent household soap leaves behind a smell that, of course, quickly dissipates, but what to do if you have to cook now, and the oven needs to be freed from grease and soot. Ordinary water, or rather steam, will come to the rescue.

  1. Fill the tray with boiling water.
  2. Heat to 150 ˚C and hold for 30 minutes.
  3. Allow to cool, then wash with a stiff sponge.

The aqueous solution can be slightly strengthened by adding a couple of drops of detergent to it. Its small concentration will not leave any smell in the oven, and the effect will be more noticeable.

Safety measures

Before starting cleaning activities at home, you need to pay attention to some points that will help preserve the health and integrity of the equipment:

  • We must disconnect from the power grid, this applies to both electric and gas ovens, which need electricity to ignite the burners.
  • Some substances included in cleaning products are toxic. This especially applies to their evaporation, which will necessarily occur if hot steam cleaning is carried out. Therefore, all procedures for removing soot should be carried out in a well-ventilated room.
  • The use of rubber gloves is mandatory, and protective glasses will also not be superfluous.
  • When cleaning with hot steam at temperatures of 100 ˚C and above, the oven door must not be opened under any circumstances until the contents have cooled completely. Even a slightly ajar door will allow steam to escape, which can easily cause serious burns.

After completing the processing, it is better to open the oven, leave the room to air out and leave the kitchen for a while, closing the door so that children and pets do not enter.
