Dishes with an enamel coating are quite affordable and attractive in appearance. However, cooking a number of products in it requires special attention, and some are better cooked in aluminum or stainless containers. Otherwise, there is a possibility that these products will have to be torn off from your favorite pan, which is absolutely impossible to do. Recommendations on how to properly clean a burnt enamel pan will help to avoid damage to dishes.

You can fix problematic enameled dishes at home with the help of tools that are available in almost every kitchen.

Soda

The alkaline composition of baking soda allows it to be used as a universal cleaning agent. You can clean enameled dishes from soot using soda in the way described below:

  1. Pour warm water into the affected container, covering the problem area.
  2. Add soda (approximately 150-200 g per liter of water).
  3. We put it on fire and bring the liquid to a boil.
  4. Boil over low heat for an hour.
  5. Remove from heat and let cool completely at room temperature.
  6. Drain the soda solution in my usual way.

Vinegar

Ordinary white vinegar is able to cope not only with soot, but also to clean enameled dishes from yellowness. To make sure of this, we do the following:

  1. Pour vinegar into the dishes, covering the burnt area.
  2. Cover with a lid and let stand for a couple of hours.
  3. Wash in the usual way.

Acetic acid reacts with the contaminated surface, which contributes to its subsequent unhindered exfoliation.

Salt

Despite the widespread propaganda of the harmfulness of this product, in this case it will be very useful. Among other things, its availability and prevalence contribute to this. You can whiten dishes with table salt using the following procedure:

  1. Fill the washed container with warm water so that it covers the burnt area.
  2. Add table salt, approximately 200 g per liter of water and thoroughly mix the resulting mixture.
  3. After a three-hour exposure, the solution can be heated without bringing it to a boil.
  4. We wait until it cools down, drain the brine and wash it carefully.

If not everything is gone, you can repeat the procedure, using boiling to enhance the effect.

Activated carbon

This method confirms the effectiveness of combating such pollution. Activated charcoal, black as the bottom of a burnt pan, will help to clean it in the following way:

  1. Tablets of activated carbon must be crushed to a powdery state. Their number depends on the treated area and should be sufficient for its uniform coverage with a layer of about 3-5 mm.
  2. Apply the crushed powder liberally to the moistened black dishes and let it stand for about half an hour.
  3. Add warm water to fill the container by a third and leave for another half hour.
  4. Wash using a standard detergent.

Coffee grounds

Another unusual tool that is no less effective than the ones described above. It is especially advisable to use it if you have to clean enameled dishes from burnt milk. Removing heat with coffee grounds includes the following sequence of actions:

  1. The paste-like mixture is liberally applied to the affected surface.
  2. Allow to infuse until the mixture is completely dry (about an hour).
  3. After the procedure, the contamination should go away together with the slurry.
  4. Remains can be washed in the usual way.

Sodas

Such drinks as Coca-Cola and Sprite, in addition to the well-known taste qualities, have cleaning properties known to a less wide range of consumers. For example, with their help, you can remove scale from a kettle, clean silver from blackness , and of course, clean an enamel pan from burnt food. To achieve success in this operation, you need to follow the following algorithm:

  1. Pour carbonated liquid into the pan, covering the affected part. This method is suitable if there is not a lot of heat, and it has not eaten into the enamel.
  2. After the drink has stood for 2-3 hours, we begin to heat it slowly, bringing it to a boil.
  3. Boil for half an hour on low heat, make sure that the soot is constantly covered with liquid.
  4. Drain the drink and wash in the usual way.

Items 2-4 are used in severe cases, when other means did not help to get rid of the dark coating.

Whiteness

One of the extreme measures is to use laundry as a cleaning mixture to remove the effects of burning from enameled dishes. This method is also intended for cases in which other means have proved powerless.

  1. Pour water into a burnt pan.
  2. Add 100 g of laundry, cover with a lid and leave for a day.
  3. Remove the liquid, wash the dishes, then boil several times in clean water, changing the water.

The problem is that linen has a rather persistent smell, which is not much easier to get rid of than traces of burnt food.

What else can be cleaned of soot

In most cases, you can clean a burned-on enamel basin or pan using the methods described above. Some of them are time-tested and have proven themselves from the good side with many years of experience. Others, more modern, are no less effective and therefore also popular. But there are still a number of methods that differ either in their environmental friendliness or in an unconventional approach to the cleaning process. We will talk about them later.

  • Apple skin. If enameled dishes are burnt, this is the most environmentally friendly way to remove the consequences. For its successful implementation, you just need to boil the peel of sour apples in a small amount of water. If you don’t mind the apples, you can cook them too.
  • Milk whey. No less ecological method, which involves boiling the serum in the affected container. After that, it is enough to wash it in the standard way.
  • Freezing. An option for owners of freezers and residents of regions with a suitable climate. You can release the pan from scorching by exposing it to low temperatures (-30 C˚). To do this, put it in the freezer for a short time, and then let it warm up at room temperature. For fidelity, the cycle can be repeated several times.

Useful recommendations

In order to preserve the attractive appearance of enameled dishes, it is necessary to follow some rules.

  • When buying a new pot or bowl covered with enamel, harden it. This will make the enamel layer more resistant to mechanical influences, which will extend its service life. The process is quite simple: you need to pour water into a new container and bring it to a boil, then let it cool without pouring out the water.
  • Do not use cleaning agents containing abrasive materials, metal sponges, and especially brushes. They leave microscopic scratches on the surface, which contributes to burning later, complicates cleaning and simply spoils the enamel.
  • Do not leave pans unwashed, or rather, do not allow food residues to dry on the walls of the dishes. This complicates washing and prompts the use of harsh products, which, as a result, shortens the service life. If there is no time to wash immediately, then at least soak the dishes.
  • Do not use enamel containers as a pan, that is, do not fry potatoes in them, do not sauté onions and do not do other similar things.
  • Do not boil milk and do not cook milk dishes that involve boiling.
  • Make sure that the dishes are clean not only from the inside. The outer surface, especially the bottom, can also accumulate soot. Various types of contamination that have stuck to the container from below, when it is heated on a gas or electric stove, burn up and require further time-consuming cleaning.
  • Protect dishes from destructive mechanical effects: do not throw or knock on them with metal objects.
  • In the process of cooking, use wooden utensils for stirring, this will extend the service life of the enamel and dishes as a whole.
  • Do not allow critical temperature drops. For example, you don’t need to pour boiling water into a cold pot.

It is quite simple to clean any enamel container from burnt food, if you approach the process correctly and have a minimum of tools, many of which are in every kitchen. Efforts will be much less if you do not postpone solving the problem for later.
