When cooking something delicious, you have to sacrifice towels, which are covered with numerous complex stains. However, you do not want to transfer them to the category of consumables and throw them away, as their presence and especially the color chosen with love for the interior of the kitchen creates coziness. To restore the perfect cleanliness of towels, you can use household chemicals, the store shelves are full of products of all kinds of brands, but there are much more effective and cheap cleaning methods. Let’s consider how to wash kitchen towels from old stains with improvised means.
Fat stains
If you need to save kitchen textiles from stains of fat, oil or smoked meat juice, experience shows that dishwashing liquid does a great job. Pour on the dirty areas to clean, rub in to prevent grease seeping into the center of the fibers, and wash off after 10-20 minutes.
Important ! If you are going to use the washing machine, then rinse the towel beforehand, otherwise you will face a foam party.
The use of gel for dishes is advisable only for fresh greasy stains. Old grease marks are much more difficult to wash off, especially if stains from other products (vegetables, fruits, dairy products, alcohol, etc.) are added to them. Let’s consider below how to wash dirty towels.

Silicate glue
An unusual tool that surprisingly effectively copes with old greasy pollution. The smell during cooking is unpleasant, but it quickly evaporates, and things become impeccably clean as a result, and the colors do not fade.
- Dissolve 1/4 of a bar of household soap and 2 tablespoons of silicate glue in 5 liters of boiling water. Open the door or turn on the hood so that the unpleasant aroma does not spread throughout the house.
- Immerse towels in the resulting solution and leave on low heat for 20-30 minutes. Turn off the fire.
- Allow the contents to cool, remove the towels and rinse thoroughly.
- Wash first by hand with soap, then in a washing machine (if possible) or again by hand with powder and rinse well.
Vegetable oil
Housewives often recommend following the rule “a wedge beats a wedge” when washing. Even in this case, oily old stains can be removed with vegetable oil.
- Boil water, pour 100 g of washing powder into it, 2 tbsp. l. of bleach and add 30 g of refined oil.
- Mix thoroughly so that the oil does not spread over the surface, but forms an emulsion with the liquid, and only then dip dry towels into it.
- Remove the hot mixture from the heat along with the contents, and let the laundry stand in this solution until it cools completely.
- Wash the towels with soap and rinse thoroughly. As a rule, all old stains will disappear from things immediately, but if necessary, repeat the washing with soap.
Manganese
This recipe is generally from the field of alchemy, but no less effective.
- Dissolve 1/4 of a bar of household soap in 5 liters of boiling water (grate it beforehand to make it easier to dissolve) and add a tablespoon of potassium permanganate to the soapy water until, after mixing, you get an unattractive brown liquid with foam.
- Put contaminated towels in the solution and leave for 6-8 hours.
- After the allotted soaking time, wring out the towels and rinse thoroughly. Dispatch as usual. After that, you will get pristine cleanliness of kitchen textiles.
Mustard powder + vinegar
If the old stains on kitchen towels are point-like and isolated, you can try to wash them off with a mixture of mustard and vinegar:
- Wet the cloth and wring it out thoroughly. This is done so that there are no sharp boundaries of the influence of cleaning substances.
- Apply a slurry of mustard powder with 9% vinegar to the stains.
- After waiting 2-3 hours, you can wash the towel in the usual way.

Vinegar + soda + peroxide
This multi-stage method is suitable for very old stains of organic origin, and will also cope with unpleasant odors.
- Moisten old stains with 9% vinegar and let dry.
- Apply a layer of baking soda on top.
- Pour the soda with hydrogen peroxide and leave for an hour, covering with polyethylene to prevent drying and not to stop the cleaning process.
- Wash the towel with powder.
Important ! For colored kitchen towels, this method of washing is somewhat risky – they can fade.
Calcined soda
Our grandmothers’ method is to boil soiled towels in a soda solution:
- Grind 1/3 of the household soap on a grater (it is better if it is the “Stains” variety).
- Dissolve soap shavings together with 100 g of soda ash in 5 liters of boiling water.
- Put the towels prepared for washing there and boil on low heat for 20 minutes, stirring so that the foam does not escape. For this, it is better to use a wooden spoon or special tongs, because the plastic can break, and the metal can oxidize and become covered with dark spots.
- Wash and rinse the towels well from chemicals in the washing machine.

Bottles of red wine
It is better to collect red wine bottles, not its stains. If you had to rub the spilled drink with a towel, and then continue the celebration, then the old stains should be treated with a mixture of vodka, ammonia and glycerin in a ratio of 3: 1: 1. Keep the fabric in this solution for half an hour and wash it in the usual way.
There is an opinion that the wedge is knocked out with a wedge, and it is suggested to use white wine for neutralization, but you can use this method at your own risk and after consulting your wallet.
Vinegar on mold
It so happens that a forgotten wet towel waited a long time for its turn in the washing machine and became covered with mold spots. In addition, he began to emit a disgusting smell. Vinegar will come to the rescue! Treat contaminated areas overnight with a 9% vinegar solution, and in the morning wash with oxygen bleach and rinse.
Banana consequences
Tender bananas give complex stains. And if the pollution has become obsolete, then you won’t be able to deal with it once or twice. Therefore, step-by-step processing will have to be carried out.
- Mix soda and table salt in a 1:1 ratio, moisten with water to a mushy state.
- Apply the mixture to the stains and leave to dry.
- Rub a dry cloth with a mixture of salt and soda.
- Pour vinegar over the treated area and, after waiting for half an hour, wash the towel completely.
