Polyester jackets are probably the most common type of outerwear, so it is important to know how to wash them. This synthetic fabric is made of polyester fibers, which make it look like wool, and in terms of characteristics – like cotton fabrics. Although polyester is not demanding in care, it is resistant to pollution, but when it comes to washing, it is important to know how to wash a polyester jacket.
Carefully study the composition of the fabric and insulation of your jacket, as well as the label for the manufacturer’s care recommendations.
Basic rules for washing polyester
Most polyester can be machine washed. Be sure to check by looking at the label – it will show a bowl of water with an indication of the temperature. If the palm is placed over the bowl, then only hand washing is allowed.
Polyester fibers do not tolerate high temperatures well, which leads to their deformation, violation of the integrity of the fabric. For example, irreparable creases may appear that cannot be straightened even with an iron. So premo only in warm water up to 40 degrees. It is not desirable to iron such products, but if necessary, then without heating the iron strongly through wet gauze.
It is forbidden to use bleaches, as polyester may shrink after washing.
The process of machine washing is as follows:
- The washing mode is delicate. Spinning, drying – turn off. The temperature is up to 40 degrees.
- Fasten the jacket on all buttons, locks, if there is a laundry bag, put it in it.
- Pour in the washing powder, but it is better to take a liquid detergent. It is better washed out of the insulation.
- Turn on the washing machine.
- When the washing is finished, take out the jacket, wring it out slightly with your hands and hang it on your shoulders, having previously wet it with a terry towel. Straighten out all the folds so that no ironing is necessary.
- Dry away from heating devices. Also, polyester does not tolerate direct sunlight well, burnt spots may remain.
If there is no washing machine, polyester can be washed by hand . Take a large container of warm water, dilute the powder, lower the jacket into the water, open the dirty areas and rinse until all the soapy water runs off. It is not necessary to soak outerwear, most heaters do not tolerate this procedure well.
Hold the wet jacket over the bathtub to drain the water. Then wrap it in a towel with a roll. Unfold, leave to dry in a horizontal position. So that water will not weigh down the product, and the fabric will not stretch. After it dries, you can hang it on a hanger.
Polyester with membrane
Polyester is often used as a basis for membrane fabric. It undergoes special treatment, impregnated with water-repellent compounds. It is worth being careful, as it is not so easy to wash a polyester jacket with a membrane.
It is forbidden to expose the membrane to high temperatures, as this will lead to the melting of the upper layer of the fabric, which will ultimately spoil the thing. That is, no ironing. Wash at a temperature of 30 degrees.
It is not possible to wash the membrane with washing powder and other crystallized detergents, they clog the pores, which deteriorate the properties of the fabric. Only liquid means, preferably special for membrane clothing.
After washing polyester with a membrane, it must be treated with a special water-repellent impregnation.
Peculiarities of washing polyester with insulation in mind
Many moments of washing depend on how insulated your outerwear is.
Most often you can read “insulation – 100% polyester”. What does this mean, how to wash? It should be noted that almost all synthetic insulation is made of polyester fibers. These are sintepon, holofiber, tinsuleit, polyfiber, Faisberskin, isosoft and many other analogues. Despite the same starting material, they are produced using different technologies, achieving different characteristics. They have different care rules. Therefore, if your jacket has exactly such an inscription, then try to remember which insulation the seller was talking about, or find your model on the manufacturer’s website, where the details should be indicated.
