If not stored properly, leather goods can also wrinkle like any other things. After pulling out a leather jacket from the closet, you can see folds on it with the naked eye, which spoil the appearance of the thing and give it sloppiness. Therefore, such a thing must be ironed, but you need to approach this issue carefully and carefully, because leather products are not ironed like ordinary fabrics. For this, several examples of how to smooth a leather jacket should be given.
It should be noted that due to the softness and thinness of the leather item, it can be wrinkled not only during storage, but also when wearing it. In such cases, the easiest and safest is smoothing naturally or with the help of a steamer.

Under its own weight
In order to smooth the leather product without the use of additional means, it is necessary:
- Before hanging a leather jacket on a hanger with broad shoulders, you need to shake it.
- Fasten the zipper or buttons, and hang the product so that it hangs separately from other things and does not collide.
- In this position, the jacket should hang for about 2-3 days so that the folds align.
This method is well suited for minor wrinkles, and is used for thin and light skin.
If the jacket is made of artificial leather , you can additionally wet it with water all the time it is hanging. Thanks to the water, the thing softens, the material and defects are straightened, but this option is not recommended for natural material.
Par
Natural smoothing methods are ineffective, so many people resort to using steam. Here you can use two methods.
- The first method: it is necessary to hang the leather jacket in the bathroom and turn on the hot water so that the steam goes away. Thus, the collected hot water creates a “greenhouse effect”, while the door must be closed. With this method, the leather item should become smooth with steam.
- The second method: in this version, an electric steamer is used, it is enough to hold it over the leather product for 15 minutes. You can also use irons with steaming, it is important to note that the iron should be held over the product, letting steam into it, and in no case should it come into contact with the surface of the skin.
Iron
You can iron leather jackets made of artificial and genuine leather, both inside and outside the product, only carefully and carefully.
It is not recommended to iron things made of leatherette, as well as products with various patterns and embroidery. In this case, the product may crack or melt.
To iron a jacket, you need:
- Turn the jacket inside out, cover it with any cotton fabric, and start ironing with the ironing mode without steam and with the minimum heating temperature.
- It is recommended to iron by applying and slightly pressing the product.
- After ironing, shake the jacket and hang it on the shoulders.

Press
You can also smooth the jacket with a press, for example, heavy materials, books. This method is suitable for leather products. To do this, the jacket should be straightened, the lining should also be smoothed, the prepared press should be placed on top of the products, and left for some time, preferably overnight. Then hang it on a hanger, and it should hang for 2 hours.
Tools at hand
There are also other options for straightening leather jackets and other leather products.
- You can use petroleum jelly by smearing the surface with a tampon, then hang the thing, repeat such manipulations 2-4 times, and then leave the jacket to hang for several hours.
- Peanut butter. It is used similarly to petroleum jelly. It is well suited for imitation leather and genuine leather.
- Glycerin. it must be dissolved in water, and the surface of the jacket should be wiped with the solution, then left on a hanger for 2 hours.
The following recommendations must be taken into account when smoothing a leather jacket:
- when water hits the surface, natural leather stretches,
- before smoothing, things need to be aired and cleaned,
- before ironing, first try ironing on an inconspicuous place or on a sample of the material to avoid damaging the product.
Such leather products are stored in a suspended position on a hanger, so that the item does not come into contact with other items and it is necessary to put a clothing cover on the leather product.
Thanks to such methods of smoothing leather clothes, it will not be difficult to get rid of folds and various creases on the skin.
