How much time and patience will be spent to clean the microwave from grease? A lot, because fatty deposits are generally difficult to remove. But if you know a few life hacks, how to wash the microwave oven from fat inside, then it is not necessary to spend half an hour with a sponge and detergents.
Pollution prevention is the best cleaning
It is easier to prevent heavy deposits of fat and heat than to clean them. To do this, wipe the microwave after each use, first with a wet, and then with a dry, soft cloth or napkin.

Importantly! Many ovens are equipped with a special coating, so you can’t use abrasive materials (metal mesh, fiber sponges, napkins)!
If there is no time, you can simply put a bowl of water, put it on maximum power for 5-10 minutes, and then wipe it dry. It is necessary to take into account:
- The dishes should be plastic, made of thick fire-resistant glass or ceramics without metal spraying.
- A bowl is used, not a glass or a mug, so that the evaporation area is maximal.
- The cloth is only soft.
Quick ways to clean the microwave oven from grease
If fat and soot still appear, they can be quickly washed off using the “steam bath” effect. For this, you will need the same bowl of water, but now dissolve the “purifying substance” in it. It may be:
- soda,
- citric acid,
- juice of 2-3 lemons together with pieces of citrus fruits,
- vinegar (not suitable for enameled internal surfaces) – a teaspoon of essence or 2-3 tablespoons of ordinary 9%. Attention: in the process you will have to endure an unpleasant smell.
Choose one from the list. It is not necessary to make a thermonuclear mixture and it threatens with unpleasant smells.
The dish with the selected “detergent” is placed in the microwave oven and turned on at maximum power for 5-10 minutes (depending on the degree of contamination). For greater efficiency, it is left to cool for a quarter of an hour after the end of the working time.
Drops of fat solvent liquid remain on the walls. It is enough to wipe with a soft cloth – and the contamination disappears. If this does not happen, soak it in the cleaning solution that you heated. It is better to use gloves to protect the skin of the hands.

Another way to wash the microwave oven without thorough wiping: using any detergent and a sponge. Wet it, squeeze out a portion of the product, “rub” and send it to the oven for half a minute to a minute at low power. The main thing is that it does not start to melt. Then the walls are wiped with the same sponge.
A classic method of cleaning with the strongest fat deposits
If the methods listed above do not help, you will have to wash the contamination in the microwave manually. Abrasives are not suitable, but you can use a windshield wiper:
- Mix the cleaner with water (half as much water).
- Disconnect the oven from the network.
- Moisten old stains with this mixture.
- Leave for five minutes.
- Wet the sponge in the solution and clean the microwave.
- Wipe the walls with a wet cloth (only water, no windshield wiper).
And a few more life hacks:
- If stains remain after steam cleaning, you can try to remove them with a cloth with olive oil.
- You need to clean the oven at least once a month.
- When heating products, use a special cap that prevents fat from splashing.
