White and colored items cannot be washed together. But sometimes it happens that some flowery trifle imperceptibly gets into the machine together with the snow-white product. As a result, your favorite clothes can acquire a rather extravagant look, which is unlikely to please its owner. If things are dyed during washing, there are many ways to return them to their original appearance, although it is not always easy.

How to act immediately

There is no need to get very upset and throw away the stained item or turn it into overalls for the summer.

There are several simple and effective methods, the immediate application of which will help to return the former color.

  • Act promptly. Do not let the victim’s clothes dry, and even more so do not iron them. Dry treatment with high temperatures will only fix the paint, making its subsequent removal more difficult or impossible.
  • Boiling is not suitable for every material. Many fabrics, especially synthetic ones, are deformed during aggressive heat treatment. In this case, it will not be possible to return things to their former attractiveness.
  • After an unsuccessful wash, try to wash the stained clothes again, but now exclude all suspicious materials, and it is better to wash them separately. Use active powder for washing and set the temperature close to 60˚C, but no more than the tag on the clothes allows.
  • If white fabric is affected, add oxygen bleach to machine wash. Soak in laundry, if the material is able to safely survive such a procedure.

What to do if clothes are stained during washing

What to do if things are stained

You can restore the color of the fabric using improvised means:

  • Household soap. This all-in-one cleaner will be effective if stain removal measures are taken without delay. We soak the dyed clothes in warm water and carefully wash the problem areas with a bar of household soap. We leave it for several hours, after which we press it in the usual way.
  • Soda . Slightly stained areas of clothing can be bleached with ordinary baking soda. Add 6 tablespoons of soda to half a bucket of warm water (approximately 5 liters) and soak in the prepared solution for 5-6 hours. Then we rinse together with the dye.
  • Vinegar . If the fabric is stained in places, ordinary colorless vinegar will correct the situation. To do this, first prepare a solution. Add 100 g of table vinegar to 6 liters of warm soapy water and mix thoroughly. We soak clothes in the mixture and wait 7 hours. After finishing, look at the result. If it is unsatisfactory, boil it for half an hour, then press it with your hands or with a machine.
  • Turpentine . A flowery thing made of cotton material, which has become so as a result of unsuccessful washing, will be restored by turpentine. First, we make a second attempt to wash in a fabric-friendly mode. Then we add five tablespoons of turpentine to half a bucket of water, mix thoroughly and soak the clothes there for 2-3 hours. Wash as usual and rinse.
  • Hydrogen peroxide . A six percent solution of this antiseptic is able to help in reanimation of white or light-colored linen. First, prepare the solution. To do this, you need to dilute 20 g of peroxide in 5 liters of water. Then we take a suitable metal container, put the affected clothes there, fill it with the prepared mixture, put it on the fire, bring it to a boil and cook it for half an hour. Do not forget to stir, having previously armed yourself with a wooden stick. The method is good both for fully colored products and for cases of partial pigmentation.
  • Nasathyr . If light clothes are stained during washing, they can be restored with ammonia. This medicinal product must be diluted in warm water (a tablespoon per 5 liters of liquid). Next, we look for a basin or pan, pour the problem clothes with the solution and boil for 5 minutes, after which we rinse with warm water.
  • Starch . If the trouble happened recently and the dye was not completely absorbed into the material, starch and some additional substances will help. You will need a tablespoon of starch, grated laundry soap, salt and citric acid. Add all the ingredients in equal amounts. We treat the affected areas with the resulting mixture from the wrong side, leave it overnight, then wash it gently and rinse it off.
  • Manganese. A white blouse that has lost its attractive appearance will be saved by potassium permanganate. We use it as follows: we make a solution of potassium permanganate of pink color of medium saturation, add powder for hand washing and soak for a couple of hours, then wash and rinse lightly.
  • Washing powder + bleach . Instead of manganese, you can use ordinary powder for white, and to enhance the effect, add bleach. Pour five one-hundred-gram glasses of powder and a tablespoon of bleach into the water. Pour the prepared solution over the clothes and put it on fire. Bring to a boil and cook for half an hour over low heat. Turn off, cover with a lid and leave overnight. In the morning, wash as usual for clothes.
  • Lemon juice . Things that have become discolored in places are restored with lemon juice. Freshly squeezed juice is applied to painted spots, left for a couple of hours, after which it is pressed and rinsed. An alternative method is to soak the affected item in an aqueous solution of citric acid before washing. Citric acid is a gentle cleaning agent that can be used even when painting delicate materials.

Special means

If the problem is not noticed immediately, folk methods of solution may prove powerless. In such cases, one can only hope for the achievements of the modern chemical industry.

  • “Antilinin”. According to the inscription on the package, the tool will help if clothes are accidentally stained, while it can be used for colored materials.
  • Bleach for natural and synthetic fabrics. The oxygen product is quite effective mainly for light colors.
  • Stain removers for colored materials. They usually have the corresponding “Color” designation. Among the most desirable, you can pay attention to Paracle, Oxi or Clean. White clothes can be saved by drugs marked “White”.

What to do if the clothes are faded

Bleach

Such products best restore natural materials, synthetics have a slightly more difficult interaction with the active substances of bleaches. In addition, in the case of artificial fabrics, the desired result may not be achieved. The main rule when choosing a bleach is to give preference to products containing oxygen. They are characterized by a mild and at the same time effective action.

For hand washing, it is better to pre-soak the clothes with bleach for 6-8 hours. Then wash and rinse. Machine washing requires special attention and is permissible only if the tag on the dress or other clothing does not contradict this. Try not to use powder bleaching agents in the car, the gel has a gentler effect, while being no less effective. Before use, dilute the drug in a small amount of water, pour it into the conditioner compartment and set the mode with multiple rinses.

Local treatment of painted areas can be applied to dense fabrics. We apply the cleaning composition abundantly on the moistened spot and wash it lightly. After that, leave it in the water solution for 5-10 minutes and press it in the usual mode for the fabric with a thorough rinse.

How to prevent staining

It is much easier to prevent such troubles than to fight them, but, unfortunately, people are interested in preventive methods already after the problem has appeared:

  • Do not combine colored and white things, an unwanted color can appear even from a small detail on clothes.
  • Look at the label before washing, this will save you from many surprises;
  • You should also not wash fabrics with radically different tones, for example, red with green or blue.
  • The higher the temperature when washing, the greater the probability of staining.
  • When buying a new T-shirt or blouse, wash it immediately, but do it separately.
  • If you suspect that the material is prone to shedding, try color retainers. It is enough to put a couple of napkins in the drum of the machine and all the faded paint will accumulate on them. Color absorbers are sold in household chemical stores.
  • You can reduce the loss of color in things by fixing them with salt. Prepare a saline solution and soak clothes in it overnight.
  • Bright cotton products, low-quality synthetic materials and jeans of any color shed the most.

Failure to follow the washing rules leads to the fact that the material not only sheds, but also sits or stretches. Therefore, you should not wash synthetic and natural fabrics together, set the temperature to close to 60˚C. Better yet, to avoid surprises, follow the recommendations on the clothing label.
