The popularity of thermal baths is undeniable. It perfectly replaces numerous sweaters and layers of warm clothes. Easy to use, absorbs moisture well, retains heat. Especially convenient for athletes. But how to wash thermal underwear and not damage its functions? This article will discuss this.
How to wash and how often
The answer to this question lies in the structure of the thermal fabric fabric: it has a hollow, porous shape. This means that these “pores” get clogged with dirt, sweat, skin secretions, etc. The more pores of the thermal fabric are clogged, the worse it performs its properties. Therefore, you need to wash often.

If the thermal underwear is made of high quality and is not fake, frequent washing will not harm it. The main thing is to follow the rules of care. Manufacturers recommend washing thermal underwear a couple of times a week for normal daily wear, and for athletes – after every workout. If we talk about outer thermal clothing, then there are slightly different rules .
Washing is possible both by hand and in a washing machine. Main rules:
- Cold water, up to 40 degrees. High temperature, affecting the material of the thermal underwear, stretches it, deforms the structure, and disrupts the thermoregulatory functions. Clothes can stretch in some places, sagging later, or go down 1-2 sizes.
- It is forbidden to iron, boil (see the point above)
- Do not twist, do not wring. Physical impact can stretch the canvas.
- Wash only with special detergents for thermal washing.
- Bleaching, use of chlorine-containing products, dry cleaning are prohibited.
- It is not recommended to wash with ordinary powder. Powder granules clog the “pores” of clothes, that is, they do the same thing as dirt.
Before starting to wash, study the label on the product. Thermal underwear can be made in different ways using different materials, so the requirements for care in each case are individual. And below we will present a generalized version.
How to wash in a washing machine
Do not be afraid to wash thermal underwear in the washing machine. If you set the mode correctly, the clothes will not get damaged:
- Delicate mode.
- Temperature up to 40 degrees.
- The number of revolutions is 400-600.
- Rinsing is double.
- Spin – turn off.
- Drying – turn off.
- The detergent is special for thermal washing.
Any violation of the above can lead to the fact that the thermal underwear will sit down or the fibers will be destroyed.

How to wash by hand
The washing procedure is simple:
- Pour cool water into a basin of the appropriate size (you can use a bathtub).
- Dissolve the detergent. You can use liquid household soap if there is no special product.
- Wet the thermal cloth and wash with gentle movements.
- Rinse, you can add rinse aid, antistatic, conditioner.
- Do not squeeze. Let the water drain from the clothes by holding them in a hanging position over the basin.
How to dry
I managed to wash it, now I need to dry it properly. Since such clothes cannot be pressed, be prepared for the fact that they will take a long time to dry. But artificially speeding up the process is categorically prohibited.
Dry outdoors or in a well-ventilated area, out of direct sunlight and away from heaters or fans. In no case do not hang the thermolyse on the battery, this will destroy the characteristics of the fabric.
You can hang it on a clothes dryer or spread it horizontally on a towel, which will help absorb excess water faster.
