If you have roller blinds hanging, sooner or later the question of washing them arises. Someone believes that only dry cleaners can make them impeccably clean. Others would like to wash them themselves, but do not know how. And this matter is not so difficult for a skilled housewife. Let’s consider how to wash roller blinds at home.

Features of fabric for roller blinds

Roller blinds are made of special fabrics. For their production, special technologies are used and they are impregnated with a composition, thanks to which they acquire the property of repelling dust and dirt. They do not get wet and keep their shape well for many years.

Tissue density may vary. Basically, they let sunlight through to one degree or another, but there are also completely opaque blinds, and reflective ones can be made to order.

Texture and color of fabrics for roller blinds can be different. Impregnation protects them from burning and loss of color during washing. Their advantage over ordinary curtains is that blinds need only be cleaned a couple of times a year. At other times, they can be vacuumed or wiped with a clean, damp cloth.

Rules for washing roller blinds

In order not to spoil the blinds by washing them yourself, you need to follow the following rules.

  1. The first and most important rule: a washing machine and roller blinds are incompatible.
  2. Remove the curtain from the fasteners.
  3. The best place for washing is the bathroom.
  4. Pour warm water into the bath so that it completely hides the rolled-up curtain, and add washing powder for hand washing.
  5. Dip the roll in water and wipe it across the entire width with a sponge.
  6. Gradually twisting the roll, wash the entire curtain.
  7. You can work together. One holds the open curtain over the bathtub with both hands, the other washes it with a sponge.
  8. Drain the water and place the roll so that the soapy solution flows, or straighten the curtain and hold the canopy.
  9. Turn on the warm water, switch the faucet lever to the shower mode and rinse the curtain with a shower hose. It is also more convenient to do together.
  10. You can rinse the curtain in another way: pour clean water and dip the fabric in it several times until all the foam comes off. If it is not well rinsed, then the remnants of the detergent during drying in the sun can change the color of the fabric.
  11. Dry the curtain in an unfolded form by hooking the upper edge with clothespins or laying it on a clean floor. Check that there are no bends and folds.
  12. In a semi-dry state, the roller blind can be hung on the window, where it will dry completely, keeping its shape. There is no need to iron it.

How to remove stains

Stains can appear on roller blinds, for example, from splashes in the kitchen, dirty hands or cat paws. If the stain was just planted, you can remove it with a wet napkin or a school eraser.

If there is a stain from coffee or tea, or a child drew on the canvas with a felt-tip pen, you will have to wash it with a stain remover without aggressive chemicals. There are such convenient rollers for removing stains with bile soap. First, you need to test the tool on an inconspicuous area.

Bamboo curtains can only be dry cleaned with a vacuum cleaner. Maximum moisture is a wet wipe for wiping stains. If it does not help, apply a stain remover to a cotton swab and gently rub the stain with it.
