Caring for artificial fur is much easier than for natural fur . But this does not mean at all that you need to forget about all precautions and wash it like all other things. Be sure to pay attention to the manufacturer’s recommendations indicated on the label. This is the only way to avoid product damage. Well, of course, you need to figure out how to wash artificial fur best.

Caring for artificial fur requires taking into account several points:

  • Improper storage and washing can lead to shrinkage, deformation, and abrasions. It is not recommended to bend, wring, store folded, carry a bag on the shoulder of the fur coat. Dry only in a spread form.
  • Often the pile is dyed in different colors. Therefore, it is forbidden to use bleaches and aggressive cleaning agents, as they can fade and fade.
  • Some types of artificial fur are made using polyisobutylene glue. Washing such things will be a bad idea, as the pile will just come out.

Cleaning

Before washing artificial fur, it should be cleaned well. Shake the fur product, beat it with a special beater or a bamboo stick. After that, walk over it with a vacuum cleaner at low speeds with a furniture nozzle. This way you will clean the fur from small dirt and dust. This process is very important, otherwise, under the influence of water, the remnants of garbage can clog even more into the pile and turn into “concrete”. It will be very difficult to clean the thing after that without losing quality.

If there are isolated dirty spots, and the thing itself is clean, then you may not need to figure out how to wash the fur completely. It is enough to clean these areas. To do this, dilute the soap solution and wash off the dirt with a washcloth. At the same time, rub from the edges to the center so as not to increase the stain. Next, the soap solution is washed off with clean water, the pile is combed and dried with a hair dryer under cold air.

Fat stains can be absorbed with starch. Pour on the greasy stain, rub, replace with fresh starch and so on until the dirt comes off.

If the white fur has turned yellow, a solution of lemon juice with the same amount of water will help restore its color. Simply wipe with a wet brush and dry. If necessary, you can still wash it.

If cleaning did not help, then you will have to wash. Carefully study the label to see if artificial fur can be washed in your case. If there are no prohibitions, then let’s start. Basically, the rules are similar to washing an artificial fur coat, which you can read about in this article.

How to wash

If you can wash artificial fur in a washing machine, then it is done like this:

  1. The washing machine is set to the following washing parameters: delicate mode, temperature up to 40 degrees, revolutions up to 600, additional rinsing, spinning and drying – turn it off.
  2. Pour in washing powder or liquid detergent.
  3. Fasten all buttons, zippers. If there are unfastened elements, then they must be unfastened and washed separately.
  4. Put the fur in the washing machine.
  5. After washing, lay it horizontally on an absorbent cloth, straighten it so that there are no creases. Gently comb the pile. Then you can either leave it to dry like this, or hang it on a hanger. It will take a long time to dry, but there is no need to speed up the process, otherwise you will spoil the fur.
  6. Be sure to periodically check the condition of the fur. Beat, comb so that it does not roll.

However, washing in a washing machine is allowed in very rare cases. For example, for fur products with a long pile, this method will be equal to death. The pile will get tangled and it will either be cut or thrown away.

If it is recommended to wash fur at home by hand, then it is done as follows:

  1. You will need a container that is large enough to hold the fur without bending.
  2. Take warm water. The temperature is indicated on the product label. Usually it is 30-40 degrees. Not more.
  3. Dilute the detergent. If you wash with powder, stir it thoroughly so that all the crystals dissolve, otherwise it will be difficult to wash them from the pile, especially a long one.
  4. Soak the fur. No need to grind, remember about deformations. Leave in water for half an hour, if necessary, wash the stains with a soft brush, rubbing in the direction of the pile.
  5. Drain the water. Pour clean, add vinegar. It will add shine to the fur. Rinse the product, then rinse under running water.
  6. Twisting is prohibited. To drain the water, hold the fur on a scale. You can squeeze it slightly with your hands. Absorb the remaining liquid with a terry towel.
  7. Next, dry horizontally, periodically combing and whipping.

This completes the artificial fur wash. As you can see, nothing complicated.

Store washed fur only on a hanger. It is forbidden to compose it. The storage place should be dry and shaded, away from heating devices. Be sure to hang a moth repellent nearby.

And remember that if you are not sure of your abilities, it is better to give your clothes to the dry cleaners.
