Plaid is a thing that is in almost every home. They cover themselves when they want to keep warm, they wrap the baby in it to take to the bathhouse, finally, the plaid is used as an item of decor, covering their sofa or bed. It is also not surprising that plaids need to be washed from time to time. And this procedure may be the last for the product, as it will be hopelessly damaged. Let’s consider how to wash a plaid to give it its original appearance?

Kinds

The method of washing the blanket depends on the material it is made of, as well as its size and weight.

  • Wool. Originally, a product made entirely or partially of wool was called a plaid. Llama, alpaca, camel, and merino wool were used (and are still used). Plaids made of different wool are different to the touch.
  • Cotton and others. Cotton, silk, and bamboo are among the natural materials for the production of blankets. The latter is especially popular, as products from it are soft, light, hypoallergenic, and hygroscopic. Cotton blankets are used more often in summer. They are good for sheltering a baby in a stroller or a crib, as they cause pleasant sensations, warm well in cold weather and provide coolness in the summer heat.
  • Artificial materials. They also make blankets from artificial materials: acrylic, polyester, microfiber. They are particularly bright and beautiful. Artificial materials are the easiest to wash.

Washing in a washing machine

It is easy to wash a plaid in a washing machine. The main thing is to follow the washing rules:

In the machine, which is designed for washing up to 5 kg of laundry, you can wash only a very small plaid, for example, a children’s, or very light. But the machine from 6 kg is able to wash almost any product.

Before washing, you must carefully study the label and set the specified temperature and mode on the machine.

For some materials, for example, wool, you need a special washing powder with a conditioner to rinse the laundry. The nuances of washing different types of wool are stipulated in this article .

If the model of the machine allows you to set the number of revolutions when spinning manually, it is better to do it. 400 revolutions is enough, otherwise the plaid will be very soft. However, almost nothing threatens the synthetic product: it will be clean, almost dry and smooth.

You should not turn on the “drying” mode, if there is one. A product made of natural materials can sag and crumple a lot.

How to wash by hand

If the product is too big for the machine, or there is none (this is quite possible in the country), you will have to wash the plaid by hand. This process cannot be called easy. First, you need a fairly large container, for example, a bathtub. Secondly, wet textiles are heavy, and you will have to turn them over, so another pair of hands, preferably a man’s, will not hurt.

  1. It is better to wash by hand, not using washing powder, but shampoo for washing (carpet shampoo is also suitable). It is easier to rinse it from the product’s villi.
  2. It is not necessary to pour a lot of water into the bath. It is enough for her to barely spill the product.
  3. Take the blanket outside first and shake it several times to remove dust.
  4. Next, roll it into a roll, leaving 20 centimeters unrolled, and immerse it in water with a dissolved detergent.
  5. Take a brush with not too stiff bristles in your hand and carefully walk along the blanket in one direction from the outside of the twisted roll and the inside of the unwrapped area.
  6. Next, carefully unfold the roll, wash and wrap it from the other end.

So, step by step, both sides of the plaid will be washed. With this method of washing, the woolen product will not stretch or shrink. The main thing is not to press too hard with the brush. It should, as it were, sweep particles of dirt and debris from the pile.

Now you need to drain the water and squeeze the roll slightly. This is where men’s hands will be needed. The product can be lifted and let the water drain. Now pour clean water. It should be about twice as much as the first time. Instruct the man to rinse the blanket by immersing it in water and taking it out. Further, the product is no longer in a roll, but in a flattened form, for a more thorough rinsing, you can pour it over with a shower hose.

It remains to dry the product. It is better to hang on a metal horizontal bar for knocking out carpets, which is in every yard.
