If you decide to glue something around the house or do appliqué, you may soon face the problem of how to remove glue from clothes. As a rule, simply washing is not enough, especially when it comes to such a reliable tool as superglue. In order to do everything well and not damage the fabric, it is important to choose the right way to remove the glue, taking into account its composition and the characteristics of the textile surface. The described methods can be used equally for clothes, and for furniture, plastic, and glass.

Super glue

The main component of superglue is cyanoacrylate, which has high adhesive properties. It sets quickly, and it will be very difficult to remove such a stain. Ordinary improvised means will not help here, special chemical means are used to dissolve superglue based on:

  • dimethyl sulfoxide;
  • nitromethane;
  • acetone.

You can buy these chemicals at any hardware store.

If there is no opportunity to visit the store, and you need to remove the glue “right now”, then you can try to replace the professional tools with improvised ones found in the bins of the apartment or in the first-aid kit:

  • nail polish remover;
  • kerosene or gasoline;
  • white alcohol;
  • “Dimexide” (sold in pharmacies).

Before you remove super glue from clothes, you should know that the substances used to dissolve it are toxic. It is necessary to work in gloves and, if possible, in a respirator. Some substances, such as dimexide, dissolve plastic, so do not pour them into plastic containers. Also consider the type of fabric from which the stain needs to be removed, as this cleaning method is aggressive and can damage the quality and color of the material.

Regardless of the chosen solvent, the procedure is as follows:

  1. Dip a cotton pad or white cotton cloth in the solvent.
  2. Wet the glue spot, gently rub, waiting for a reaction and changing the cotton pad to a clean one as the superglue is removed.
  3. When the stain disappears completely, wash the place in soapy water.

Superglue against frost

If there are no chemical substances at hand that can dissolve the super glue, then you can try to remove it using freezing followed by heating. By the way, while you’re running to the hardware store for solvent, there’s nothing stopping you from throwing your ruined clothes in the freezer and trying this method.

  1. Put clothes contaminated with superglue in the freezer for 2-3 hours.
  2. With the blunt side of the knife, lift the frozen spot, which will ideally be sprinkled with fabric crumbs.
  3. Place the garment with the glue spot on a clean cotton cloth, place another piece on top and heat the area. A hair dryer or an iron is suitable for heating. The remaining glue will be transferred to a napkin.

Another option is to freeze clothes. At a temperature below -15 degrees, PVA glue begins to peel off from the fabric material, 15-20 minutes of freezing and the glue stain can be easily shaken off with a brush.
