There are several types of felt-tip pens. The most common are:
- water-based (they can also include chalk);
- alcohol-based;
- on an oil (fat) basis;
- based on paint.
Since in each of these cases a different composition for ink is used, then you should choose what to use the felt-tip pen accordingly.
Water-based felt-tip pen

Light or colored clothes should be washed carefully and after diluting the product in water (about 1 tablespoon of ammonia per glass or two of warm water), you can add powder or soap shavings. Apply with a soft sponge, and wipe the contaminated area from the edges to the center. Then rinse. The stain should come off.
- White fabric can still be washed with hydrogen peroxide, as in the case of green . Treat the area with the felt-tip pen with a cotton swab, changing the cotton to a clean one until the stain disappears. Then lock with soap and rinse.
- If you are looking for a way to remove a felt-tip pen from colored or patterned fabric, you can use dishwashing detergent. It does not deal with such pollution so effectively, but it will not brighten your clothes either. Soak the problem area for a couple of hours, then wash it.
An alcohol-based felt-tip pen
In this case, the rule “A wedge knocks out a wedge” applies. That is, alcohol will come to the rescue.
To begin with, if the felt-tip pen has not yet dried, it should be wetted with a paper towel. Do not press and do not smear, just carefully absorb everything that is absorbed into the paper. This will remove the top layer of paint, and it will be many times easier to remove the remains. With dried spots, you will have to tinker a little longer.
Before washing the felt-tip pen, place a paper towel under the fabric. This is necessary so that the stain does not transfer to the other side.
- Use a cotton pad, soak it in alcohol (navy, cologne, vodka, etc.) and carefully treat the stain from the edges to the center. Change cotton wool as it gets dirty.
- An old marker stain can be washed off by preparing a mixture of shavings of household soap and a small amount of alcohol. Treat the area with this mass and wash it in warm water.
- If you don’t have time to wash right now, you can soak the dirt in pharmacy glycerin for an hour or two. After this time, the fabric can be easily washed in warm soapy water with the addition of a small amount of salt.
Oil-based felt-tip pen
Here there is only one true and reliable way – to process the stain from the felt-tip pen with vegetable oil. In this form, the fabric is left for several hours so that the oil absorbs impurities. In general, ordinary dishwashing detergent is enough, but in the case of white items, you may need to add bleach. Be sure to follow the instructions for use.
Paint-based felt-tip pen
This situation requires a lot of effort, as it is difficult to say how to remove the felt-tip pen from clothes without damaging the fabric itself.
Any solvent will help to remove the stain from the paint marker: acetone, rubbing alcohol, gasoline, nail polish remover. However, all of them are quite aggressive and can change the color of the fabric and deform it. Before using any of these products, test its effect on an inconspicuous area of clothing. If everything is fine, proceed further. Otherwise, you can try to use nail polish remover without acetone or any other means described for other types of felt-tip pens. Thoroughly soak the contamination with solvent. Do this with a cotton pad, having previously placed a paper towel under the fabric. Leave to “soak” for half an hour.
