Finding a jacket that fits your figure perfectly is not an easy task. And the price for high-quality outerwear is very high. Therefore, often an oily stain, accidentally placed on a jacket, becomes a real blow to the wallet and mood. But you should not be upset and remove your favorite wardrobe item on the mezzanine. There are ways to remove a greasy stain from a jacket using improvised means.
Preparation and precautions
Do not try to remove the stain using wet or dry wipes, cloth, towel. As a result, the area of contamination will increase, and the fat will penetrate deep into the tissue.
Pay attention to the product tag. It contains useful information: type of fabric, permitted washing options and sensitivity to aggressive substances. Deciphering signs can be found on the Internet.
Pay attention to the wrong side of outerwear. There is usually a fabric sample sewn by the manufacturer. It will be possible to check the reaction of the material to aggressive substances.
Before you tackle the stain, start by removing excess oil. To do this, apply a napkin, paper towel or gauze (with light pressure) to the affected area. After a few seconds, the oily substance will be absorbed, and only a weak discharge will remain on the jacket, which must be removed.
WARNING! It is much easier to remove fresh stains than old ones. Therefore, try to start cleaning as soon as possible.
Textile jacket
To prevent the spread of the stain on the textile, it is better not to soak the jacket. The trace of fat is processed dry, and only after that the outer clothing is washed completely.
- Cut the natural laundry soap into thin shavings, slightly wet it and apply it to the area of the stain. Leave the soap mass for half an hour, then carefully remove it from the surface of the fabric with a napkin.
- Dilute a teaspoon of ammonia in a glass of water, then soak a cotton pad in the solution and treat the greasy mark. Remove the remaining solution with a new dishwashing sponge, gently pressing it to the treated area.
Down jacket
If the down jacket is machine washable, the stain can be pre-soaked using:
- household soap;
- means for washing dishes;
- any stain remover.
After 20-30 minutes, the product can be sent to the washing machine.
If the down jacket requires hand washing, you can remove the greasy stain in two ways:
- Crush the chalk in a mortar. Apply the resulting powder to the stain, rubbing the chalk with light movements in the direction from the edges of the contamination to the center. Remove the remaining powder with a dry toothbrush, wash down outerwear.
- Apply packaged potato starch to the stain. Cover the work area with a cotton towel and heat it with an iron. After that, you need to carefully remove the starch with a toothbrush, and wash the down jacket.
Bolognese jacket
Removing a greasy stain from a Bolognese jacket at home is more difficult than in previous cases.
- Mustard powder must be diluted with water (to the state of thick sour cream). The finished mixture is applied to the greasy spot. After an hour, the jacket can be washed in soapy water.
- If you have tooth powder at home, you can use it. To do this, you need to apply a little powder to the stain, then rub the product with a napkin, wait 20 minutes and send bolognese outerwear in the washing machine.
- Dip a small piece of cotton wool in table vinegar and wipe the stain. After that, the product should be washed immediately.
IMPORTANTLY! Vinegar can react with paint. Before using this method, test the reaction of the fabric on the inside of the product (in the area of the sleeve or zipper, where there is no lining).
Suede jacket
A simple stationery eraser will help save suede from a greasy “stain”. Rub the stain with an eraser, trying not to go beyond the edges of the stained area.
Leather jacket
Leather outerwear cannot be washed or soaked. A fresh greasy mark can be easily removed if you sprinkle it with flour. You will have to fight more aggressively with old spots.
- Mix gasoline and acetone in equal proportions. Treat the greasy spot with a cotton swab soaked in the solution. At the same time, it is necessary to put thick paper or cardboard on the back of the outerwear, which will absorb excess moisture.
- The method is based on mechanical influence and requires special accuracy. It is necessary to cut off a small piece of sandpaper, wrap it around your finger and clean off the grease. You will have to constantly interrupt and evaluate the result so as not to damage the skin.
