Ideally, seasonal things should be stored in the closet not close to each other, but at a short distance. This is done so that they do not wrinkle and have access to air. But it does not always turn out that way. Therefore, a leather jacket and other outerwear after a few months has a completely unpresentable appearance. Not everyone knows how to iron a leather jacket. If you do it incorrectly, the skin can bend, and it will be impossible to return it to its original appearance. Therefore, we will look for other ways.
We will try to do without an iron
The most economical way of smoothing the “skin” is to hang it on the shoulders, lightly spray it with water from a spray bottle or wipe it with a damp cloth and hang it for 2-3 days in a warm place. Thin and soft skin will take on its original appearance sooner than rough skin.
If you have a bathhouse or sauna, you can hang a leather jacket on your shoulders there. So you combine the pleasant with the useful.

If you live in an orderly apartment, use the bathroom. Open the hot water tap. A lot of steam is generated, which will help to iron out all the wrinkles on the leather product. Arrange a steam bath for the jacket for several hours to achieve the desired effect.
As you can see, this method is quite long. And if the jacket is planned to be worn on the same day? You will have to use an iron.
There is another completely atypical method: the use of nut butter. If this is not available, petroleum jelly will do. Use a cotton pad to apply oil to the creased areas and hang the jacket out in the fresh air.
Rules for ironing leather
A leather jacket can be ironed in two ways: dry and wet. The first type does not involve the use of steam, respectively, the second, on the contrary, does.
Dry ironing:
- Do not set the iron regulator to the highest temperatures at once.
- You can only increase the temperature gradually.
- The greatest effect can be achieved if you use an ironing board.
- Before using the iron, the leather product is carefully straightened and smoothed with the palms of the hands with light pressure.
- It is necessary to put a dry, smooth cotton cloth on top of the skin and not allow it to come into direct contact with the iron.
- It is not recommended to use gauze, as it is not perfectly smooth, and its pattern can be reflected on the skin.
- Do not press hard on the iron, you can achieve the desired effect only by repeatedly driving over the same place.
- You have ironed one area, wait for it to cool, and then you can iron the other, otherwise further creases will appear.
- It makes sense to use special devices that help to iron collars and sleeves without creases.

Wet ironing:
- Only a vertical steamer can be used for wet ironing.
- Hang the jacket on your shoulders at a height convenient for steaming.
- To see all the folds and irregularities, do the work in a well-lit room.
- The distance from the product to the steam generator should not be less than 15 cm, otherwise the skin may become wrinkled.
- Unlike dry ironing with an iron, the steam generator heats up to the maximum temperature.
So, it is quite possible to iron a leather jacket. But it is better to avoid such a situation when it needs to be ironed by placing it in the closet so that it remains smooth.
