Holofiber is a synthetic material that is used as a filler or insulation. It is widely used in many areas, especially for sewing outerwear, blankets, pillows, and soft toys. Due to its structure, it perfectly retains heat, on par with down , but differs from it in its lightness and ease of care. There should be no problems with how to wash holofiber. Everything depends on what material the product filled with this insulation is made of.
To begin with, let’s analyze what holofiber is. This is a spiral-shaped polyester fiber. Thanks to its structure, it has elasticity, wear resistance and excellent heat insulation properties. At the same time, hollow fiber is not afraid of any physical influences – it easily restores its shape without losing its qualities. Insulation is not afraid of moisture, the fibers of the material have a smooth surface on which water drops quickly roll off.

Washing rules
Can holofiber be washed? You can. At the same time, there are no special requirements for washing. Let’s consider the basic rules using the example of a jacket made of cotton fabric:
- It is allowed to wash by hand or in a washing machine.
- The water temperature is 50-70 degrees.
- You can squeeze, twist.
- Detergent – it is better to choose a liquid one. Powder is also suitable, but it is poorly washed out of the insulation, so it can leave a specific smell.
- If the fabric of the jacket allows, you can use stain removers.
- Ironing with heating up to 100 degrees is allowed.
- Stubborn dirt can be washed off with soap and a brush.
Outerwear
As you can see, you can wash holofiber in virtually any way you like. Therefore, when washing outerwear, everything closes on the material of the top. To do this, pay attention to the instructions on the clothing label. It will indicate whether you can wash by hand, in a washing machine, at what temperature.
Most often there are jackets and overalls with such upper fabrics as: membrane, raincoat, bologna, polyester. Let’s figure out how to wash a holofiber jacket in each of these cases.
Membrane fabric can be washed both by hand and in a washing machine. More details in this article . The label on the clothes will tell you about it. Basic recommendations:
- water temperature up to 40 degrees,
- special detergent for the membrane,
- do not wring, do not twist,
- dry in a well-ventilated place, away from heating devices, not under sunlight,
- after washing, treat the fabric with special impregnation.
Cloak fabric is washed at a temperature of up to 45 degrees without the use of strong mechanical influences, i.e. it is better to turn off the spinning in the washing machine, it is also not advisable to twist it by hand, as it can lead to irreparable fractures to the fabric.
Bolone jackets are quite sensitive, so washing them in a washing machine is not recommended. Only hand wash at low temperatures is allowed. More about it here .
Polyester jackets are worn at a temperature of up to 40 degrees. It is forbidden to use bleaches and aggressive detergents, as they will change the color of the fabric. It is better to wash with liquid detergents for delicate things, you can add conditioner. High temperatures and ironing are unacceptable, as this deforms the material, creases will appear on it.

Pillows, blankets
Separately, it should be said about how to wash holofiber, which is used to stuff a blanket or pillow. There are no differences in washing. But there are some nuances that should be taken into account before and after.
Before putting the pillow in the washing machine, place a heavy object in the center of the pillow, remove it, and see how quickly it recovers its shape. If this does not happen, then probably the filler has lost its qualities. Just fixing it won’t make you better. The filler must either be loosened or replaced. Or buy a new pillow.
Wash with liquid detergents on a delicate mode with additional rinsing and spinning.
Dry in a well-ventilated place. Periodically beat the pillow, blanket, so that the filler dries faster and does not clump together. It is not necessary to accelerate drying by heating.
If the hollow fiber has lost its shape
If the holofiber was deformed after washing, it can be restored in several ways.
- The jacket or overalls can be washed in the washing machine with tennis balls. In the case of a pillow or blanket, this method may not be suitable, since the filler layer is larger.
- Cut the product, remove the filler, comb it with a pet brush and / or fluff it with your hands, then turn it back.
- If the above does not work, you can easily change the filler – you can now buy holofiber at almost any craft store.
