There is nothing unusual about washing work clothes, especially if they belong to a car enthusiast. It is a completely different matter if machine oil got on clean original clothes, on which even residual stains, which cannot be removed even after several washes, are completely inappropriate. A pressing question arises, how to remove the machine oil so that not a trace of it remains, and most importantly, so that the thing does not lose its appearance.
What should not be done
Whatever the contamination, to wash machine oil from clothes, you should resort to the services of powders and coarse brushes as a last resort. Even the strongest fabrics become thinner from this and lose their appearance and their own strength. Naturally, this also applies to thin fabrics on ordinary running clothes.
Solvents and alcohol can also be used in the worst cases. Moreover, the solvent should be chosen correctly.

What is the best place to start
If it is a small spot on clean clothes, placed by accident, then first of all you need to wet the place of contamination. When wet, the oil will not spread, further eating deeper and stronger.
Chalk
In that rare case, if a piece of chalk happens to be at hand, then it should be pounded and sprinkled on the stain, the chalk will help remove engine oil from clothes or diesel fuel, at least most of it, which will significantly facilitate further actions.
Dishwashing detergent
Actually, as with any other greasy, oily stains, the best solution for washing off engine oil will be the same Fairy, Gala or other dishwashing detergent. They do an excellent job of breaking down simple and complex fats and can remove them even from the most stubborn fiber.
It is necessary to pour the product on the contaminated area and leave it for 15-20 minutes, after which the product and the remains of the machine oil are carefully collected using a paper napkin or a piece of cloth. Then the product is reapplied, washed and rinsed with warm water.
By adding a little more product before washing, you can send the item to the washing machine and finally clean the problem area. If the stain still remains, you will have to switch to more aggressive methods of exposure or give the clothes to dry cleaning.
Stain removers
There are a number of detergents, including aerosols, which can quickly solve the problem with a stain from machine oil. In the hardware store, it is worth looking at various additives and means for pre-soaking. If their description clearly states that they deal with greasy and oily stains, oil and fuel oil stains, then you should try them in your case. It is important not to forget that those products that are designed for white items often contain bleach, which can be harmful to colored items.
According to the instructions, dirt is treated with the product or added to the washing machine and that’s it. This often ends all worries about stain removal.

Solvents
If all the previous points did not help or for some reason are not suitable, then you can use such an aggressive method as solvents. It is better to use white spirit or solvent 646. The first in itself is a product of petroleum distillation, and therefore very actively interacts with natural machine oils. Solvent 646 itself is a mixture of such active solvents that it can deal with any stain instantly, but it should be taken into account that it can eat not only oil, but also dye, as well as spoil the fibers of fabric, especially synthetic ones.
It is important even before using solvents to test them on an inconspicuous area of clothing to make sure that the consequences are not so noticeable, it is best to remember a strip of fabric along the inner seams.
Before washing off solidol or engine oil, you should wet the cloth. This way you can neutralize the already negative consequences for the tissue around the stain.
After the stain has actually dissolved, the remaining oil and solvent are collected with napkins, and the clothes are washed with household soap and sent to the washing machine. In the case of white spirit, you can also use dishwashing detergent before washing.
All of the listed ways to wash off machine oil are effective enough to deal with both a small spot and old stains. If they didn’t help, it’s better to go to a dry cleaner or just put up with the damaged clothes. However, if everything is done correctly, then the last option is unlikely to be useful.
