A drink spilled on clothes will definitely leave a mark. If it is a clear liquid, in most cases it will be enough to rinse the clothes in warm water. But to, for example, remove a tea stain, such actions will not be enough. Let’s consider further effective ways to remove a tea stain.
The composition of tea includes special compounds – tannins, thanks to which the drink has its characteristic aroma and astringency. In addition to these qualities, tannins are natural dyes, which, in combination with their tanning properties, makes removing tea stains quite a difficult task. At the same time, the process of removing stains from green tea is as time-consuming as for black tea.
We use household chemicals
The chemical industry does not stand still and is ready to offer many solutions that will help get rid of yellow-brown stains on clothes and fabric household items.
- Bleachers . Means developed by well-known brands will help remove traces of tea on both white and colored fabric. In addition, they will do it quickly and without negative consequences for the material. What cannot be said about budget analogs based on chlorine. They should be used with great care, without fail testing on an inconspicuous area of clothing.
- Stain removers . They fully justify their name. These products eliminate tea stains, like many others, without much difficulty. It is enough to soak the affected area in an aqueous solution using a stain remover, and then wash in the usual mode for the fabric.
- Cleaning products . To remove tea marks from white clothes, a regular detergent for cleaning the bathroom or sanitary ware is suitable. As in the case of budget bleaches, it is better to conduct a preliminary test on the inner lapels of the clothing seams before use.
- “Antipyatin”. A fairly effective and affordable tool capable of dealing with simple tea stains. Simply wash the contaminated area with soap and rinse with warm water.
We remove tea stains with improvised means
If the drugs described above are not at hand, you can use products that are in most kitchens or in a home medicine cabinet.
- A solution of salt and glycerin. We take common table salt and mix it with glycerin until it becomes a paste. We apply the resulting mixture to the tea stains, wait 10 minutes, then press in the normal mode for the fabric with a machine or by hand.

- Boiling water Place the affected item of clothing in the container so that the tea stain is on top. Bring the water to a boil, for example, in an electric kettle and pour it over the contaminated area. Wait until it cools down and remove traces with powder or soap.
- Lactic acid . We mix water and lactic acid in equal proportions, abundantly wet the problem area with the resulting solution. We wait for half an hour and proceed according to the method indicated on the clothing label. This method can be used to clean fabrics such as silk or wool.
- Contrast rinses . The method consists in successive rinsing of contaminated clothes in cold and hot water. The process will be more effective if at each stage the stain is rubbed with a brush or washed by hand.

- Wipe the soiled fabric with a soapy solution consisting of water and dishwashing detergent (approximately 1 teaspoon per 100 g of water).
