As with any household appliance, a gas stove requires careful care. It’s nice to cook on a clean and tidy stove, but is it easy to clean? By listening to the advice in the article, you will understand how to clean a gas stove at home and ensure its long service life. The basic rules of cleaning, the means that can be used for the surface of the stove, as well as the nuances of removing dirt from different parts of the stove are considered.
The gas stove is used almost every day. In the process of cooking, pieces of food, drops of fat may fall on it, which, under the influence of high temperature from the fire, burn to the surface. In order for the stove to serve for a long time and work properly, it must be carefully monitored and cleaned regularly.
Cleaning rules
Before cleaning the gas stove, grill, oven, handles, perform the following actions:
- Shut off the power supply to the automatic flame ignition mechanism of the gas burners.
- Shut off the gas.
- Remove the burners.
Now you can proceed to cleaning.

The most effective and handy household tools to clean kitchen appliances at home are:
- soda,
- hydrogen peroxide,
- table vinegar,
- liquid dishwashing liquid,
- salt.
Do not use table vinegar and hydrogen peroxide on an enameled surface.
To avoid allergic reactions to detergents used for self-cleaning at home, the procedure should be carried out in rubber gloves. This will help preserve the skin of your hands and prevent the appearance of itchy allergic rashes and eczema. If you have an individual intolerance to some of the components included in the detergent, it is necessary to use baking soda for cleaning.
Here are the main nuances of cleaning individual elements of a gas stove:
- If there is boiled dirt, stuck food residues and other contaminants on the surface of the work table, you cannot remove them with a hard metal washcloth or knife. Soak the contamination in water mixed with dishwashing detergent in a ratio of 1:1 for about half an hour to an hour. After that, all the dirt can be carefully cleaned with a soft dish sponge.
- If the contamination is severe (it has not been cleaned for a long time, or the food is burnt), mix soda with dishwashing detergent and a small amount of water to obtain a liquid slurry. Apply this mixture to the surface of the gas table for an hour and a half, then just clean it with a sponge.
- Abrasive powders and cleaners containing aggressive components and acids cannot be used to clean the area with pictures from adhering dirt, they can irreversibly damage the applied images.
- Surfaces of the kitchen stove covered with plastic, glass, stainless or enameled material should be cleaned with a kitchen sponge using dishwashing detergent and wiped with a soft cloth. So there will be no soap streaks and dull spots.
- Before cleaning the handles of the gas stove, unscrew them, it is better to clean the handles separately. Soak them in a bowl with dishwashing liquid. After that, wash it with a sponge, dry it and put it back on the already clean and dry plate. When cleaning the handles, you can use a kitchen sponge of medium hardness.
- Places near fixed handles and buttons on the panel can be cleaned with a toothbrush.

- The stainless steel control panel is washed with a soft sponge and wiped dry with a cloth.
- It is allowed to clean the grate of the gas stove table with a hard metal washcloth using a fine abrasive washing powder or other detergent.
- It is not possible to wet the arresters of electric ignition. Unfortunately, the damaged arrester cannot be repaired and is replaced with a new one.
Oven care
It is recommended to wash the oven with warm water and detergent every time after using it for cooking. The use of specially developed aerosol means for removing fat from the surface is allowed. It is easier and more convenient to clean the oven before it has completely cooled down. Sticky dirt is soaked with a washcloth and removed with detergent. When washing the oven, you should be careful – try not to damage the rubber seal, which helps the oven door fit tightly to the structure of the gas stove when closed.
