Unfortunately, the whiteness of the bath sooner or later ceases to be dazzling, and later it is completely covered by a yellow coating. And products made of any materials, including new-fashioned acrylic, are prone to this fate. Even the most expensive bathtub produced by a well-known foreign company turns yellow over time. Thank God that there are ways to clean the bathroom from yellow stains without difficulty.
Causes of yellow plaque
Yellow plaque can appear for various reasons.
- The worst thing is if it’s mold . It causes headaches, rashes on the body, respiratory diseases. It must be removed with a special agent against mold, which is sprayed on the surface and then thoroughly washed off. After that, you need to make sure that the air in the bathroom circulates normally, and that the surfaces dry.
- Lime scale is the second enemy of bathroom linen. Water with a high content of calcium and magnesium salts is to blame. And such flows from taps in almost all cities of our country.
- The most common cause of unpleasant yellowness on the surface of the bathroom is rust. It can get into the water if the water pipe has not yet been changed to modern plastic. It can also appear if the water is rich in iron.

Means for cleaning the bath from yellow plaque
What can be cleaned depends on the nature of the plaque:
- Diluted hydrochloric acid can remove the effects of a high content of chlorine and metal salts in water.
- A mixture of hydrogen peroxide and ammonia in a 2:1 ratio will help clean the rust.
- Vinegar and salt will be needed if the stains are quite old.
- Turpentine or white spirit are reliable anti-scaling agents.
Enameled baths
The steel bath is covered with enamel. It is unacceptable to use abrasive products, fiberglass sponges and brushes with very hard bristles for its cleaning. Scratches appear, which over time become deeper and more noticeable. Cleaners containing acids and alkalis will not work either. They will simply destroy the enamel, making the cup unusable. On store shelves, you need to look for paste-like or cream-like products, the label of which indicates that they can be used to clean enameled bathtubs.
You can deal with rust on the surface of the bathtub with improvised means. For this, a mixture of ammonia and hydrogen peroxide is prepared in a ratio of 2 to 1. The resulting solution is applied to the contaminated areas and rubbed with a soft sponge or brush. If this method does not help, then you can resort to a more radical one – heated wine vinegar with a small amount of salt.
Lime scale is easy to clean with turpentine or solvents for oil paints. These products must be applied to a dry surface using a soft sponge. After treatment, the entire bath is washed with a soapy solution and rinsed with clean water.
If it is not possible to clean the yellow spots with ordinary detergents, then you can use a technical solution of hydrochloric acid, diluted with water in a ratio of 1 to 2. This agent is quite aggressive for humans, so be sure to wear gloves when applying it.

Acrylic baths
Acrylic is a very delicate material. It does not tolerate the influence of acids and alkalis, which simply deform it.
The acrylic surface is distinguished by its ability to repel dirt, so it gets dirty less often than enamel. On the other hand, such a bath is easily scratched, so if a layer of persistent dirt has formed, it will be extremely difficult to clean it without damaging the acrylic. In this regard, the bath needs daily care.
Acrylic is easy to take care of daily. It is enough to inspect the bathtub and wipe it dry every time it is wet. Then the plaque will not appear in the next 20 years. And if it does gradually absorb the whiteness of the acrylic, you will have to clean it with the help of special products, which are full of stores.
The use of gasoline, acetone, chlorine, ammonia, and abrasives is out of the question. After a few months, there will be no such “care” of the plaque, because there will be no acrylic bath itself.
Cast iron baths
Heavy cast-iron bathtubs are a legacy of the Soviet past. They are still standing in many apartments. They are loved for their strength and good heating. The yellow coating on the surface of such a bath is caused by the content of zirconium salts in the coating. The best way to clean enamel on cast iron is baking soda and products containing it (Pemolux). Ordinary vinegar is also suitable. By the way, it perfectly disinfects the surface, removing up to 95% of microbes. Mustard powder perfectly copes with the same task.
A few home remedies for cleaning a cast iron bath:
- Apply a mixture of baking soda and baking soda in equal proportions to the surface, wait 25 minutes and rinse with a shower hose.
- Wet the napkins in vinegar and stick them on the inside of the bathtub. After 3-4 hours, remove them and rinse the bath.
Therefore, home remedies are only suitable for cast iron baths. And for acrylic and steel, only purchased ones are needed.
