Manufacturers of washing machines are trying to increase the competitiveness of their products by adding various functions to it. It can be an increased spin speed, the shape and number of holes in the drum or a super strong stainless main tank. All these improvements add value, but the washing modes in the washing machine affect the quality and economy much more. It is about them that will be discussed in this article, but to begin with, a little about the rules of use, which are relevant for all models available on the modern market.

General recommendations

Some rules, the observance of which will extend the service life of the machine and preserve your favorite clothes:

  • Before choosing a mode, sort things by color and type of material. If this is not done, the machine will not be worse, but the laundry may suffer.
  • Load cleaning agents into specially designed compartments, not into the drum. If for some reason they are not washed out, do not try to solve the problem yourself – contact a specialist.
  • Do not overload the drum when choosing a quick wash. Equipment will last longer if you limit yourself to half the maximum weight for the unit in similar situations.
  • Before using different types of washing mixtures, make sure that they are suitable for use in automatic machines.
  • Regardless of the selected mode, check the pockets of clothes for the presence of metal and other foreign objects in them.

washing modes in the washing machine

Basic modes

There is a basic set of programs that is present on almost all automatic machines. Understanding what each specific mode is for, it is much easier to decide on the choice of the most effective one for solving a certain problem.

  • Cotton . Designed for dense fabrics, in particular, cotton. Washing, as a rule, takes a long time and in a relatively tough mode, with a water temperature of up to 95 ˚C, spinning at maximum speed. Used for bed linen, clothes made of cotton and similar materials, as well as when it is necessary to wash away significant contamination from fabrics for which the use of this mode is permissible.
  • Synthetics . A gentler option, designed for synthetic and mixed fabrics. The temperature usually does not exceed 60 ˚С, in order to exclude deformation of the fabric and loss of color. Spin speed may be maximum unless otherwise specified. The washing process itself is as long as in the previous case. When choosing this mode, it is not recommended to load a full drum in order to avoid the possibility of damage to the laundry.
  • Daily washing . The duration of the mode is no more than an hour, while the consumption of water and electricity is close to the minimum. The temperature of the process is set in the range of 30-40 ˚C, spinning at maximum speed, if this is permissible for all washed items. A fast method suitable for most materials used in everyday life.
  • Economic mode . Eco program is used for lightly soiled laundry. It can be washed at a relatively low temperature, but for a longer period of time. As a result, the processing quality is preserved with much lower energy consumption.
  • Hand washing . One of the most favorable modes that allows you to wash delicate fabrics without being affected by high temperatures and overloads during spinning. It can take quite a long time, the water warms up to values not exceeding 40 ˚С, spinning at minimum revolutions, on some machines it is possible to turn it off.
  • Careful, delicate or gentle washing. Such names are used to indicate hand wash on some washing machines. The result may differ slightly depending on the specific model, but in general the essence is the same – minimum temperature and revolutions.
  • Pre-washing . Designed for very dirty laundry and helps to save a little on water and electricity. On some models, this mode starts, as it were, two consecutive washes, which requires loading two portions of powder into separate trays. For a greater effect, it is recommended to pre-soak the laundry in soapy water.
  • Express washing . Fast and economical mode designed to remove minor dirt. It is well suited for cases when there is no need to thoroughly wash things, but you just need to refresh them.
  • Intensive washing . A quick way to wash jeans and similar durable materials. The rotation of the drum in the process is quite fast, and the pauses are minimal. The temperature can be at the maximum (95 ˚C), if it is not possible to manually set it yourself. Spinning up to 1000 rpm. Despite the hot water used during the program, it is considered quite economical, probably due to its short duration.
  • Wool mode . Another delicate program, but with some features. When washing woolen products, a minimum temperature and mechanical impact is used, in combination with a metered flow of water. This ensures the preservation of the shape and excludes the fading of linen.

Additional modes and functions

In addition to the basic washing modes in the automatic washing machine, which are present in almost every model, there are a number of options that expand the functionality and allow finer adjustment of the process.

  • Half loading . The program is relevant for a small amount of dirty laundry. Allows you to maintain washing efficiency without harming the machine.
  • Timer . Some machines are equipped with a special display that displays the time remaining until the end of the wash.
  • Delayed launch . A useful function that allows you to activate the process at any convenient time. For example, set the start one and a half hours before coming home from work.
  • Adjustment of spin. Program for automatic adjustment of drum revolutions depending on the type of mode and the amount of laundry loaded. This option is usually available in expensive modern cars.
  • Additional rinsing . A useful function if there are children in the house or people with high sensitivity to powders and other means of special processing. After enabling this mode, one more rinse cycle will be added, while the super rinse program will perform it 6 times instead of 3 as usual.
  • Balancing the spin . In order to exclude the appearance of significant vibration and noise during laundry spinning, the machine starts it gradually. At first, rotating at low speeds, the drum evenly distributes things over the entire area. Then the main cycle is turned on, at the maximum revolutions for the selected program.
  • Night cycle . Ensures the most silent operation of the machine, without execution, the last stage of squeezing. At the end of the wash, the device turns off without giving a signal that informs about the completion of the process.
  • Turning off the spin . Some fabrics are so delicate that it is impossible to wring them mechanically, even at the lowest speeds. This mode is designed for such materials. The laundry remains completely wet and can be wrung out by hand or hung to drain and dry naturally.

Correct use of basic modes together with additional functions will ensure high-quality and economical washing. And observing elementary rules will extend the service life of the laundry assistant, so it makes life easier for modern housewives.
