An invariable attribute of a business man is trousers, which demand increased attention. They should always look perfect and with ironed arrows. Although the appearance of this wardrobe element is always the same, the most diverse materials are used for their sewing. Accordingly, how to wash trousers differs for different fabrics.
The material used for pants is different: from viscose, which in principle does not accept wet cleaning, to synthetic fibers, which have already firmly taken a worthy position even among very high-quality and expensive items. Therefore, it is important to study the tag on the clothes to find out the washing conditions.

We define the washing mode
The main criterion of whether trousers can be washed and how to do it is the label with the markings on them. If there is a wash symbol crossed out on the label, then wet methods are completely prohibited, only dry cleaning should be done with the use of specialized means, and even then locally.
If there is a “bowl with a hand” icon, then you cannot use a washing machine, only hand wash, only low temperatures not higher than 35oC and gentle treatment without brute force. Twisting push-ups are completely prohibited when this icon is present.
If it is permissible to wash in a washing machine, then the temperature and applicability of spin are taken into account. In any case, you should carefully study the label and follow the instructions provided by the manufacturer.
Denim pants are washed according to a completely different scheme than suit pants, which you can learn in detail here .
Hand wash trousers
- Water temperature – 30-35oC;
- Cleaning agents – only liquid ones suitable for the type of fabric of the trousers, soapy solution;
- Rinsing without spinning;
- Drying on a hanger for trousers in a straightened form.
The first and most important rule of washing is to check the pockets and remove all things from them, as well as remove the belt. After that, it is worth checking the integrity of the lock, buttons, inner parts of the pockets. If you need some small repairs, it is better to do it before washing.
Next, you should fasten the pants, moreover, on all buttons and zippers, if they are available. It is best to wash in the bathroom, where the pants can be laid out as evenly as possible.
For cleaning and washing, use only liquid products, preferably specially selected for the fabric, a soapy solution or, as an extreme case, washing powder, which should be dissolved in water beforehand, otherwise dilutions may remain on the fabric after drying.
If there is heavy dirt, stains, too worn areas around the pockets in the area from the back of the belt to the knees, then you can use stain removers on them, or soap them before hand washing.
The drain hole is closed with a plug, trousers are placed on the bottom of the bathtub. With the help of a shower, water is collected, distributing it evenly. With the help of a soft brush, on which the detergent is applied, it must be transferred to the pants. It is not necessary to make any special efforts, it is enough to distribute the detergent evenly on the leg and upper part. Washing trousers lasts for five minutes, no more.
Rinsing is performed several times without wringing and twisting. The detergent should be thoroughly washed from the fabric, for which the water is changed several times. At the same time, the water temperature should not change.
To dry, the pants must be straightened, folded according to the arrows and hung by the lower part of the pants on a trouser hanger. First, over the bathtub or bowl, so that the main water flows, then you can already prevail on the balcony or in the room. In no case do not hang them out to dry in the sun. In fact, all materials deteriorate to one degree or another from direct sunlight.

Machine wash
- Water temperature – 35-40oC;
- Detergents – only liquid detergents suitable for the type of fabric;
- Mode – delicate, hand wash mode;
- Automatic drying is prohibited.
Machine washing is allowed only if there is a corresponding permission icon on the label, which indicates that the fabric is able to withstand such loads. Before washing, fully fasten all buttons and zipper, if there is one.
It is advisable to turn the pant legs inside out so that the fabric on the front side does not rub against the drum, as an option, you can put the thing folded several times in a laundry bag. It is better to use both. Fold in the following way: flatten on a flat surface according to the arrows, leg to leg and fold two or three times.
The delicate or hand wash mode is used, if available. You can use a double rinse to better wash the detergent out of the fabric. It is better not to use spin, or if it is allowed by the manufacturer, then use it at low revolutions, for example 600 rpm.
Immediately after completion, without delaying for a long time, they are taken out and straightened, if the trousers were previously turned inside out, then they must be turned inside out again, straightened and hung by the edges of the trouser legs on a hanger.

Woolen pants
They demand increased attention during washing, if you carelessly turn on the mode with a temperature above 40°C, you may find that the pants have shrunk after washing. In this case, there is little that can help. Woolen fabrics, such as cashmere, tweed, mohair, are used to sew the highest quality and best pants, but they are also expensive, so if you have the slightest doubts about your own abilities, it is better to entrust the matter to a dry cleaner. Linen and cotton trousers
Practical and durable items made of linen and cotton, however, have similar cleaning methods. Such trousers can withstand high temperatures, but a sudden change in water temperature should not be allowed. So if the water in the machine is not heated before rinsing, and the washing was carried out at a temperature of up to 65 °C, then they will settle down.
Automatic drying is unacceptable, it is better to do everything yourself.
Velvet
A few words about how to wash corduroy pants. Most often, these are pants without arrows, free cut. However, corduroy became widely used due to its practicality and comfort. Since corduroy should be washed very carefully, even by hand, it is better to limit yourself to dry cleaning. Special clothes brushes are used for this. During cleaning, there should be no sudden movements so that the fabric is not stretched. Hand washing is performed without twisting and wringing. Before washing trousers, they should be turned inside out so as not to spoil the appearance of the material.
