An enameled teapot is a convenient thing, aesthetic and practical. But even if the kitchen is equipped with a home water filtration system, it is unlikely to be able to get rid of hard deposits in the form of scale: salt impurities will stick tightly to the walls. The question arises: how to wash the dishes? Fortunately, there are many good ways to descale an enamel kettle in a matter of minutes.
How lime scale is formed
With repeated boiling, the salts contained in the water form a soft precipitate. Over time, it turns into a petrified plaque. If nothing is done about it, it gradually becomes more and more layered and renders the enamelware completely unusable.
In addition to the fact that lime deposits on the walls of dishes look absolutely unaesthetic, the most important argument is health care. Even with the use of filters, calcium salts penetrate into drinking water and form a stable sediment that is constantly compacted. When ingested, these salts clog the intestines and cause various diseases.
Today, there are at least several effective ways to clean an enamel kettle from scale.

Mechanical cleaning
This method is quite simple: you just need to use an abrasive brush. It can be a metal washcloth, river sand, the hard side of a dish sponge. With the help of a mechanical method, you can quickly get rid of even the most persistent deposits, but there are also disadvantages:
- The process is very time-consuming, it will take a lot of time and effort.
- When removing plaque, you can easily scratch the surface. A rough, not perfectly smooth surface will no longer have the effect of novelty.
- In the future, microcracks will clog even more, and it will be increasingly difficult to remove them.
Specialized means
Very effective, easy to use. The active component of such products are acids that corrode the sediment and clean the enamel. The disadvantage of such means is the cost, which varies depending on the brand of the product.
Folk remedies
These are, in most cases, natural remedies available in the arsenal of any housewife. The most popular:
Citric acid
An excellent helper in the fight against lime deposits. Instantly dissolves, absolutely non-toxic and safe. For better effect:
- pour water into an enamel kettle,
- pour a spoonful of citric acid powder,
- put on fire until boiling.
- after the water boils, turn off the gas and leave the contents to infuse for 20 minutes.
Plaque will begin to peel off in pieces. After this treatment, the kettle is wiped with a sponge and small particles are cleaned. Rinse the teapot with clean water.
Vinegar
Vinegar works similarly.
- One glass of vinegar is taken for 2 liters of cool water. Leave for half an hour and wait for a reaction.
- After that, the same mixture is boiled for at least 10 minutes.
- All the contents are poured out, and the kettle is washed under a strong jet pressure.
- At the end of the procedure, the kettle is filled with clean water and boiled. This water is not used. You can boil water for drinking only after boiling.
Peel from vegetables
You can use potato peel: it is rich in acids. Strong acids quickly eat away plaque and are absolutely safe for health.
- Put the potato peelings in a kettle, fill everything with water and boil for at least an hour.
- Hard deposits will soften a lot, they can be easily cleaned with an abrasive washcloth.
For the same purpose, you can use the peel of citrus fruits and sour apples.
Sparkling water
It is no longer a secret that the usual Coca-Cola can be not only drunk, but also used for household purposes. It turns out that there is carbon dioxide, which, forming a weak carbonic acid, is able to corrode plaque and clean problem surfaces no worse than expensive cleaning products. True, in advanced cases, you will have to be generous, since such cleaning must be carried out in several stages.
You can clean the kettle every two weeks, leaving the carbonated liquid for half an hour. After the procedure, clean water is boiled in the kettle “just like that” and poured out.

Drinking soda
It can help in the most neglected cases, as it softens lime well, which easily lags behind problem areas after the procedure. This is especially true for hard-to-reach places, for example, the spout of a kettle.
So, to carry out the procedure:
- Pour water into the kettle and bring everything to a boil.
- 3 tablespoons of soda are added there and mixed.
- Allow to cool.
- Once again put on fire and drain the liquid.
- Without cleaning anything, fill everything with water again and add vinegar. You can also take citric acid.
- Everything is defended for half an hour.
After such cleaning, all deposits will begin to easily come off the enamel, you just need to walk along the walls with a soft sponge and rinse under running water. At the very end of cleaning, water is boiled again and poured out.
What can not be used to clean an enamel teapot
- Chlorine-containing products such as “Belyzna”, “Domestos”, “Silit”. These compositions contain toxins, and even after repeated boiling with pouring water on the walls of the vessel, particles of the poisonous substance may remain in the plaque fragments. The same can be said about washing powders and other household cleaners intended for cleaning the kitchen, but not kitchen utensils.
- Knives, sharp, cutting objects. They are able not only to scrape off plaque, but also to remove the enamel surface. Open areas without an enamel surface expose alloys not intended for interaction with drinking water, which sometimes leads to severe poisoning.
It is not difficult to clean a teapot with an enamel surface, the main thing is to use these methods correctly. With simple tips and a few inexpensive home remedies at hand, you can easily clean any dish and enjoy cleanliness for a long time.
